Clerkenwell Design Week

Clerkenwell is home to more creative businesses and architects per square mile than anywhere else on the planet, making it truly one of the most important design hubs in the world. Clerkenwell Design Week, a three-day event held each May, was devised in 2010, to celebrate this extraordinarily creative area.

We designed the identity, and for its first three years, all of the promotional material, including street signs and advertising campaigns. The challenge was to create a bold and recognisable logo that would seamlessly unite the various venues throughout the neighbourhood together. This meant the event had a strong street presence and didn’t feel like a series of disparate happenings.

Clerkenwell Design Week’s unique selling point is its village atmosphere so we hand-crafted the logo in keeping with this idea. The graphic identity uses illustration at its heart to fit with this bespoke, crafted look. We initially worked with illustrator Damien Weighill, who created a series of stunning drawings of the area, an idea that still runs through the event’s identity to this day.
